We are a small friendly yard in Ashley, Cheshire, known as Stock Farm. We are a no frills working yard, where the horse comes first, run by proper good old fashioned horse people.
We take in livery, a maximum of 10, and they all live very happily in a mixed herd, in the natural state. The horse can be a horse, i dislike the modern tendancy to put alone in very small paddocks, they need companionship, this they thrive on. It encourages a very settled, content, happy horse. This thus enables us to have a very happy relaxed attitude around the horses and vice versa. This atmostphere is very often commented on when people come to visit.
We organise trips out to shows, the beach, Somerford Park, Delamere Forest and Teggs Nose! etc.
We have a nice large field, where we also graze a few friendly pet cows which keeps the grass very horse friendly and not horse sick, with the added bonus of having very old herbal pasture, which is far superior to a horse than the modern grass. Laminitus being virtually eleminated.
There is on sight instruction with your own horse, any level accepted, problems being our speciality for either horse or rider. There is nothing in the world for me, that beats a huge smile off my riders when they accomplish what they are striving for, a perfect partnership!
The stud is a relatively new area to the farm, although we have many years of experience, except it was always purely for our own uses. We decided due to demand to purchase my stock, we would invest in this area. We prefer to breed in the purple, which means to breed for quality NOT quantity. On a personal level the stud has been very demanding, workwise and financially. Believe me we are very aware of the saying "fools breed horses for wise men to buy." My very patient friendly vet reminds me enough
To date we have had terrific highs and terrific lows, but i wouldn't change anything for the world.
